Caught Red-Legged

Hi Everyone!

The weather has been really gorgeous here lately. Temps have been in the low 80s and it's been dry enough that I can open all the windows. Hooray!

We share a front landing with our neighbor, who is a very nice 50-something lady (she has a sign on her door that says "What happens at Grandma's, stays at Grandma's"). She came out to find out what we were doing and kind of gave us the third degree. My husband was no help, because I like to be a little diplomatic, and he's very forthright. "We're taking pictures of her outfit so she can post them on the internet for her friends." I'm all, "It's sounds weirder than it really is!" But she was really nice and said I looked really cute. I think it's easier to take photos like this in front of strangers than people you know and might see again.
: )

I got this top on sale at Anthropologie recently. I love the little snail polka dots on it and I think it will be perfect for hot weather because it's open in the back and very breezy. It overlaps so my bra won't show (unless it's a windy day, heh). A breeze blew by in the second photo, so you can see how it kind of opens up a bit.

Thank you! : )

Blouse: Anthropologie
Pants: J. Crew
Shoes: Cole Haan
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Ooooh I love that swingy top and the bright color combo, especially the yellow bag. I probably would have chickened out on the bag.

Love! Not everyone could carry this, but you do it perfectly.

LOVE that blouse! It's so much more fun than a regular blouse would be. Also love the tangerine jeans and the whole outfit vibe. Your neighbor sounds really funny!

Love this! The orangs; the snails, everything works and is so interesting!

I wonder if you could wear this top backwards too?

Very cute! Love the colors and of course the snails :) I really like the unexpected cut of the shirt with this classic combo.

    Ana! Another fabulous outfit!

I love that top! I tried it on at Anthropologie and didn't realize it was backless until I had it on. It was a total no-go for short-waisted big-busted me, but you are ROCKING it!!

This is why I take my outfit pics inside my house! : )

A very cute look! What is the top silk or polyester?

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Love these bright colours on you!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Absolutely stunning. Those pants are perfection on you. Which ones are they?

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

You manage to dress playfully without looking childish -- this is a real accomplishment! There's a nice balance of flow and structure here. Maybe Grandma should join YLF and get her style on!

  • Ana replied 11 years ago

Thank you so much, everyone! I'm posting on my phone and it's hard to type longer responses, so I will be back a little later to respond more fully. Just wanted to say thank you! :)

Sounds like several of us have circled that top :). I saw it at Anthro (along with another one in taupe with white snails) and almost tried it on, but I told myself that the back wouldn't be practical, since I couldn't wear it to work. But the snails were soooo cute! Fab to see you looking so wonderful in it. The whole outfit is fantastic and so chic.

Every time you wear those pants I want a pair! Una, I'm pretty sure Ana said once that they were from J. Crew and maybe 1-2 years old? AJ, I think I remember the top being silk.

Okay, I will butt out now!

  • citygirldc replied 11 years ago

i love anthro and it suits you well.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Lovely! I like the navy+white+orange (one of my favorite color combos), and those pants are just divine. Also love the little peep toes peeking out ^^ Snail polka dots are too cute!

Your top is perfect for Texas weather! I love it and the snail pattern is adorable. So funny about your neighbor!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous. This works perfectly on you.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

That is SO adorable. I am smitten with those snails! What a clever pattern.

You look fantastic in the blue with the brights.

I'm finally home. Thanks for the replies and comments everyone! I really do appreciate it. You all are so wonderful. : )

Isis, I hadn't thought about that but I might try it and see if it works. I would definitely have to wear a cami under it if I wore it the other way around though, hee.

MaryK, thank you so much! I didn't realize it was open until I put it on either! It's kind of surprising since you can't tell on the hanger. I almost took a pass on it because of that, but then it seemed to stay closed pretty well, even when I walked but felt nice and breezy so I just went for it. It makes tucking it into skirts kind of tricky though (they show it in the catalog that way).

AJ, it's silk. If it were polyester I'd have to take a pass on it since one of my summer resolutions is no polyester (it's hard to stick to--so many cute polyester tops out there).

Una, Jonesy is totally right (thanks for chiming in, Jonesy!). They are the J. Crew stretch twill Bistro pants in Cerise. I picked them up for $20 about three years ago and they were the first really bright, crazy things I bought. I thought, "These are so BRIGHT. I've never seen pants so bright...I love them!" I think it must have been fate because I just slowly kept adding more and more bright things to my wardrobe and now I pretty much wear color all the time. :D J. Crew usually brings out very similar colors/designs every few years, so hopefully they will sell some wide leg trousers like these again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I'd love to get a second pair to wear with lower heels.

Wow, thank you again everyone! :)

So cute! I love it! Funny story about your neighbor :)

  • Fruitful replied 11 years ago

Could you be any more adorable? - yet it's a completely grown up look. I'm inspired.

  • Louise replied 11 years ago

I love the colour combo so zingy x

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

What a great combo! Those pants are perfect on you, and I would be tempted to try that top as well. I seem to be giving up my old knit tees in favor of flowy silky lightweight tops for the warmer weather, and this one is adorable.

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

You look amazing. I think this is my favorite outfit of yours ever. That top is just so fun and those pants! Oh my goodness, those pants, I want some....now, lol.
