Inspired by Kari

Hello everyone!

This outfit is inspired by Kari's WIW post here. I loved the combination of nautical stripes and black. I don't wear black that often, so my go-to choices for this skirt would probably have been white, red or yellow. But I thought her choice looked great and was also somewhat unexpected. So when I picked up this top at the Rack a few days ago, I knew exactly how I wanted to wear it. Thank you, Kari! : )

Top: Nanette Lepore
Skirt: J. Crew
Shoes: Seychelles
Handbag: Marc by Marc Jacobs

You look stunning Ana! Such beautiful pieces and gorgeous outfit.

You are Audrey Hepburn, 2012 version! So delicate and chic.

I love this on you - it all works beautifully! A lot of interesting texture and details, but it's not over the top in any way, just gorgeous.

It is perfect and I am learning so much from how you pair your bag and shoes. I have matchy matchy tendencies and would have opted for black shoes but the overall result would have been far less fab.

    So adorable!!

Definitely fantastic! The bag and shoes spark things up but I love the detail on blouse. Daytime lace gets me every time :)

Love your style. I'm have to do something like that with my bw chevron skirt. And maybe find a yellow bag.

Gorgeous look (Kari's was gorgeous too!). Ana, I am so glad you are posting more--I just adore your style! You have a lot of flair.

Oh, Ana, how many times can I tell you I love your style! As Shannon said so cleverly, it's "Parisian Nautical." Each element is a love fest and I also love the way you play with your bag and shoe colors.

Great interpretation of Kari's outfit! Love the splashes of color from the shoes and bag.

You and Kari both make the nautical stripes look so 2012. The black lace with the stripes is unexpected and very pleasing to the eye. You really have beautiful legs and should show them off every chance you get.

Love it! I love the splashes of red and yellow against the simple black and white. I'm a huge black and white fan.

I'm on the go this afternoon, but I just wanted to comment quickly and say THANK YOU so much! You all are wonderful! I will post more in depth later tonight.

So cute and gamine! I love the full skirt and pumps on you. Superb little top, too, does it meet your summer requirements? It looks like it does. Just wondering if it has it's own cami.

    So pretty!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

I am not a fan of this skirt shape (on me anyway) but your outfit is pure perfection, Ana!

I love to see outfits inspired by other YLFers! This is really fresh. I love the way you master this silhouette and manage to look both polished and easy.

Phew! I'm finally home from running around and I'm just catching up with the comments. Thank you all SO MUCH for your lovely comments and words of praise. You guys are wonderful. I really appreciate everyone's comments!

    Shannon--Parisian Nautical. I love that!

Julie, thank you so much! That's such a compliment and I'm so glad that my posts are giving you ideas for your own outfits!

CitygirlDC, I think you would look great in an outfit like this! I think you and I have a similar casual style. Feel free to copy away! : )

Jonesey, Kellygirl, San and Vicki, thank you so much! Reading over your comments I am smiling big and blushing a lot. : D I am trying to post more outfit photos as a goal to keep me dressing nicely as the weather heats up (it gets really tough). I think I will try to post 2-4 outfits a week. Depends on whether I can get DH to take photos (if he has time before work). : )

Angie, thank you for the K rating! And all caps too. Wow!

Claire--yes, it does meet the requirements!! I was so excited! Actually, there's an old story behind this top. I saw the same style/same designer on super sale at Saks about 3 or 4 years ago. I instantly fell in love with it, but it was made out of a pearly pink silk with a pale nude lace overlay. Gorgeous, but just the worst colors on me. Maybe only pale lavender tops those. I was so sad! So of course I dragged TX Sarah there and convinced her to buy it (okay, I didn't have to convince her that much, hee hee). So now I can admire it on someone else! : ) Here's a link to her wearing it this week and she looks amazing! Anyway, when I saw this same style top at the Rack this week (but in cotton) I was ALL OVER IT. There was a woman there eyeing the rack and I was like, "Keep walking lady because these are mine" (well, in my head of course). : )

Anyway, the lining is sewn in and it is woven cotton, and the lining also has straps so if I wear a same color bra, you can't even really tell. The lace is cotton/nylon blend, and I think I may be able to hand wash the top instead of having it dry cleaned. So I ended up buying it in black and white because I think at least one of the colors will go with pretty much everything in my closet. : D

Thank you so much again, everybody!

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Oh my gosh, Ana, I am so flattered. And WOW, you blew me away with your interpretation! I love the lacy shell, and the pattern mixing is incredible. It's also fun to see a very warm weather interpretation of a look that I wore on a cold day!

  • Ana replied 11 years ago

Thank you, Kari! I loved your outfit and I thought the genius was how you managed to take something that is usually considered summery like a striped skirt and interpret it for cold weather with a darker handbag and a black, long-sleeved shirt. You looked fabulous, and I always look forward to your WIW posts. : )

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Wow, you look smashing! I could totally see you in a Kate Spade catalog. The black lace, striped skirt, red shoes and yellow bag combo is just genius! And lovely interpretation of Kari's cool look!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

'Inspired' is right! Each of those pieces is fabulously beautiful on its own --- lace top, striped full skirt, citron bag and red shoes --- but it's the combination of all four that is so outstandingly awesome! Ana, this was a joy to see.

And such fun to realize that both you and Kari went the same mixing way, with opposite seasonal results! Brilliance times two on YLF!
